I’ve been to Naples recently and I found it a hard city to like. Long old-town streets of high, hemmed-in buildings; scarce glimpses of blue sky above; no grand open piazzas; no views; lots of litter; loud, rude waiters.
Maybe it was just me. Perhaps I expected something that Naples just wasn’t.
But then I started to look more closely at the buildings, and more particularly at the graffiti – like the litter, graffiti was everywhere.
I can’t say that I warmed to the city. But I took a shine to this art, in those long, dark, dirty streets.
