Once the searing heat of summer has gone, there’s still a whole lot of glorious weather to come in the hills and valleys of central Portugal. The warm days and blue skies continue until late in the year, and while the colours are slowly beginning to change, there’s nothing of the mist and damp of a creeping English autumn.
Would you miss that sharp definition of a season – those temperatures and colours that say ‘winter’s on its way’?
I only know that I never did. These glorious October days – in the serra foothills around Gois – are fixed in my mind even now.
