My name is Yaw

Takoradi market, Ghana, West Africa, Jules Brown

This is the moment I told the lady selling tomatoes that I was born in Ghana and that my Ghanaian name is ‘Yaw’ (‘Thursday’, the day I was born).

Everyone in Takoradi market thought that was the greatest thing they’d ever heard.

And I felt a tiny bit like I’d come home.

  1. Yaw? And where’s that picture of your mom and baby you that I saw on Twitter? I want details — there’s got to be quite the story!

    • Glad you liked it, but I agree, I need to write more about this. It’s on my To-Do List I promise! But I really wanted to get the photo out there as it reminded me so much of my Ghana trip.
